Graduate Certificate Program Admissions

Students must meet the following requirements before applying to the Graduate Certificate Program in Digital Video Production:

  • Students must be currently enrolled as graduate students at Florida State University (FSU) affiliated institutions.
  • Students need a GPA of 3.0 in all graduate work for admission into the program.

Students must be enrolled in a graduate program but do not have to be enrolled in a College of Communication graduate program. Students from all major areas of study are welcome to apply.

Application Process

Interested student should complete and submit an application form to the Media Production Area Head. Admission is on a rolling basis so there is no admission deadline however, to qualify for the certificate students should apply before beginning coursework.

Step 1: Download Application as a Word file (Download Now). Complete the application in Microsoft Word and then email to Dr. Andy Opel, Media Production Area Head at aopel@fsu.edu.

Step 2: If accepted into the certificate program you will be asked to schedule an individual meeting with Dr. Andy Opel, Media Production Area Head to discuss enrollment.

Non-degree Seeking Students

Special student (non-degree seeking) applications are subject to review by program faculty. For special students, a Bachelor’s degree is required with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (or a GRE composite score of 1000, or better). The Special students may be able to take classes with permission of the instructor and chair, space permitting.

Transfer and “Double Counted” Credits

Three (3) hours of coursework may be transferred from another university to be counted towards completion of the certificate. In order for the course to be transferred, a formal syllabus of the course taken must be presented with a Transfer Course Form to the Media Production Area Head and the course will be evaluated for acceptability. Grades of B or higher must have been received for the course to transfer. Additionally, a transfer course must have been completed within three (3) years of beginning this certificate program.

For students whose major areas of study overlap with the certificate program, courses taken that fulfill one of the four core areas will apply to completion of the certificate. Program administrators must approve courses in order to be applied to one of the core areas.
